The Battle of Verdun took place from February to December 1916 just north of the French town of Verdun along the Meuse River. In 303 days of fighting, over 300,000 French and German combatants were KIA. Verdun was one of the longest and deadliest engagements in human history.

This French map shows the front lines of the battle in 1916 on 21, 23, and 25 February, 24 May, 7 and 23 June, 11 July, 24 October, 2 November, 15 December, and after the battle on 20 August 1917.
